What's the laptop budget I should make

So I'm trying to buy a new laptop. I honestly don't know what budget I should set. I only use the laptop to surf the net, watch news, etc. which basically a netbook/tablet can satisfy the needs. The only reason I need a laptop is because I need to record songs so I need something somewhat advanced to run the recording app. Can anybody give me some idea as to how much I should spend. Thank you.
