I had a home network of an w7 computer abd a winxp3 computer that were networked by wire. I could access the LAN connection in either computer and obtain complete acccess to data files on the other computer. I updated the win xp machine to w7 and cannot connect. On both machines a popup password box shows. Although the password/usrid are identical on the two computers, neither machine accepts them. Even the w7 machine which previously did not require a password now has a popup box. In "advanced homegroup settings? I turned off the requirement for passwords but it seems to make no difference. I desperately need an idea re how to proceed.

Try mapping a network drive in My Computer. If the other computer is running and has a directory shared to be accessible over the network, you should see it.
