Hello all!

So I'm fairly new to PC's in terms of replacing parts, etc since I've been a console player. I decided to move to PC gaming because it's much more enjoyable in terms of player count and graphics wise.

okay so I want to upgrade my graphics card to an:

EVGA 650 Ti BOOST (that's as high as I can go)

I have to upgrade my PSU to a Corsair cx 600w because I found out that my PSU is generic. :(

This is my system:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c01616194#N96

What I want to know if the graphics card is compatible and will fit in my PC. I know it's pretty crowded but the card has a blower type fan that ejects the heat through the back.

Inside of my case:

Thanks, I'd appreciate the help!

it should fit, its not a terribly long video card. You might run into an issue where it covers the sata port going to the hard drive and cd drive, but theres a few lower down that you could use instead. That card should work well for you, make sure you download the newest drivers from geforce.com

After looking further, you will need to route the cables efficiently, but it can be done

Thank you for answering. I opened up my PC case again today and discovered these 2 cables that connect into the motherboard. One goes from the Harddrive and the other to the SATA Drive. It looks like it'll block the GPU...

Oh and another thing. I have the cable that goes to my monitor that has a pin like the blue one on the right. But on the new
graphics cards I don't see this same type of connector.

Thanks for the help

Hello,

Welcome to the Club. I think the 650 TI Boost is a nice card, just make sure you get one that has 2GB of VRAM. This is important. You might want to look into the GTX 660 as well. It's only about $20 more depending on the deal you get and it comes with Metro Last Light.

First thing you need to do when replacing the power supply is to wire manage the inside of the case. This will work wonders for you in terms of how easily it is to get new components in and out. Plus it looks nice.

Secondly, I don't think the sata ports should be an issue. The graphics card doesn't rest against the motherboard, it actually sits a little bit off it, so you shouldn't have a problem.

Third, what type of monitor do you have? Does it have any other ports on it such as DVI or HDMI? If it does, just replace the cable. These types of connections are more desirable. If it doesn't there is a dongle you can get, actually some video cards come with it, that will convert DVI to DSUB (The Blue One)

Lastly, Could you possibly post a full shot of the inside of the computer. The close up shots are disorienting.

Thank you for the friendly welcome. :D

I checked out the GTX 660 and it looks like a good card. The Superclocked version comes with a mail in rebate and is at $190.000 with the rebate. Do you think it's okay if I get the superclocked or the standard version is better for my PC?
Also in the image it says that it comes with the D-Sub adapter for DVI to VGA which is the cable that connects my monitor to my PC. My monitor is an HP 2009m/ 1600x900 res.

Overall shot inside my case:

This is a better close up shot of the 2 red cables (one is from the HDD and the other from the SATA) that hook onto my motherboard. :

My worry is that the card won't fit and I have to send it back. Not exactly that it WON'T fit, it just looks like those 2 connectors look like they would obstruct the path for the GPU. My motherboard is 9.6 inches by 9.6 inches. The GPU is 9.5 inches long so it looks like it would be a close call... I live in Colombia and a family member is going to send it to me so you can guess how much of a hassle and waste of money it would be to send it back.

Thanks again!

Cheers :)

Thanks for the additional pictures. The GTX 660 is definitely worth the little bit more, plus I believe it comes with a free game. In regards to whether it will fit, it's difficult to say. The empty sata ports are no problem, the video card will clear them. I'm more concerned with the active ones located above. Remember, both of these cards, the 650ti boost and 660 are dual slot cards. In fact just about any video card worthy of an upgrade utilizes two slots. It's important to note, the card only requires one PCIe slot, but will take up the space of two slots.

Fear not though, if the sata cables do obstruct the card, which they probably won't, but if they do you can simply get some low profile ones like this.

Remember, the video card sits on top of the PCIe slot, which itself is the same height as the sata ports so you should be fine. Just remember, when you install the new power supply to wire manage everything neatly with zip ties. Not only with the computer look better but it makes working inside the case a lot easier. Best of luck. Let me know how the upgrade goes.

I'm starting to feel much better that you will have no problems. According to HP, your existing card is the 9500GT (please confirm), which is just under 7 inches long. According to Nvidia, the standard GTX 660 is 4.4 inches long, so it's even shorter than your existing card.

The only thing is that the 660 is double slot, versus your existing single slot card. It looks like you have plenty of room. I think that your motherboard was designed to accommodate a video card of at least the length of the 9500GT, so you ought to be able to rearrange the cables, if necessary, to make it fit. The GTX 660 is a really small video card.

also if you look on websites like newegg or other online retailers, they will tell you the dimensions of the card. you can always get out a tape measure to get a rough idea of where the card will fit in the case. I honestly dont think that it will be big enough to obstruct the sata ports that are being used in your computer (referencing this image: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf-JAVA/Doc/images/418/c02261399.jpg ). with either card you are looking at it should work. I ran a single 660 in my computer for a long time and it was worth the money for sure. I still have it, but with a second to play on 3 screens. I dont think you should be disappointed with either card at all though.

matto i think the PCB on the gtx 660 is 6.6", the cooler extends it to closer to 8.5"-9.5" depending on which card he gets, still it should fit

Umm the card it had WAS a Geforce 9500GS. (The fan burnt out) So it was replaced by an OLD 7300LE.

I read on newegg that the dimensions of the 660 was 9.5" x 4.38" http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130826

I think you're referring to the GTX 650 which is small indeed.

Okay, I see, EVGA isn't exactly using a reference board then. The GTX 650 Ti Boost has the same dimensions as well.

The way I see it, you don't have any other upgrade options. Either one of these fits, which I'm pretty positive it will, or you will need to upgrade your entire PC and/or motherboard if you want to upgrade your gaming graphics.

It seems like a good gamble to go ahead and buy a GTX 660. You may need to try to plug in your SATA cables into some of the other sockets. If it absolutely won't fit, then you can sell it locally along with the free game and start to look at a more major upgrade.

Is there any way you can go to a local store, "buy" a GTX 660, see if it fits, then return it?

Just some brainstorming thoughts...

Thanks for answering man. Yeah I have an extra slot open for it. Thanks for the picture just incase I need it. I have to wait at least a month till my family member buys the parts then ships it to me. I will be sure to remember to reply back here.

Anywho I looked up on the internet to see how many SATA ports (sockets) my motherboard has and it says 6. Well is it possible if I can disconnect my HDD from the blue port and connect it to the one in from of the cable that that goes to the SATA drive?

Close up picture:

Thanks again.

EDIT: Is this cable good? It says it is a 7 pin. Are the mobo's sata sockets all 7 pin?

The cable you've linked to is fine. Sata is a standarized interface so any cable will work. As far as moving the cable, as long as you're moving it from one sata port to the other it shouldn't matter. Some are esata, but I doubt that board has that connection.

I'd wait until you get the card to order any cable or move anything. only do it if you must.

Hey man, sorry I took long to respond but I just got my stuff yesterday. In the end, I got a Corsair CX500 , GTX 650 Ti, and a Razer Mouse Pad for a bonus lol

Here are some pics:

GTX 650Ti and 7300LE comparison lol

Thanks bud for the help. As you can see the GTX 650 Ti boost would not fit because of all the cables. I was going to get the modular version but it was .4" wider than the standard. The standard is a precise fit.

Again Thank you.

Cheers
