Can i overclock my intel i5 2400 safely to 3.5Ghz, and is there a risk of it possibly dying? Will i notice better performance in games? I have a good CPU cooler, the Thermaltake Frio so over heating isn't a problem. I do plan on upgrading my CPU to a K version when the new intel CPUs come out. My build is below if it helps.

If you have any recommendations please tell me in the comments!

Case: HAF 922
CPU: intel i5 2400 (Thermaltake Frio cooler)
Video Card: GeForce GTX 660 FTW Signature 2 2GB
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK Z77
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 Cas 7 1.5V
PSU: Rosewill CAPSTONE 650W
HDD: WD BLACK 1T 7200rmp

The i5-2400 is supposed to be at 3.5Hz with turbo. There is absolutely no risk of it dying of the overclock, nor will you notice much of a difference, since it's such a small boost.

Be sure to install your cooler correctly though with thermal paste applied on properly. Not doing so may cause a cpu to shorten its life even without any overclock.

Changing the base clock frequency isn't a good idea. It will cause instability, damaging components, and mess with ram frequency. Really not a good idea to do this.

Ok in the BIOS i selected the turbo on all cores and it did put it to 3.8 automatically , but i wasn't comfortable with that so i set it to 3.4, thanks :D
