Solution
pc2 = ddr2 and pc3 = ddr3. according to that spec sheet you linked, your system came with 3gig ram, and max's out on 4gig. it also says vista, but does not mention whether it is 32 or 64 bit. if its 32 bit, you can't access more than 3.25ish gig of ram. if it does have 64 bit, you could upgrade, but you'd only be getting 1gig more of ram, and its most likely not worth it.

anyway, the best way to find out what ram you have now, is to open the ram hatch on the bottom of the laptop, and read the part number off of the chip. but like i said, a ram upgrade from 3 to 4gig, isnt going to change much, even if you have a 64 bit O/S.

Yes.
If you have 3GB of memory, it's unlikely that adding more would benefit you. It's odd that it's 3GB (2GB + 1GB?) as this might put it in single-channel mode so the memory is operating at HALF of what it could be. However, it's also likely based on the other hardware that this wouldn't matter much.

*If your computer feels a little sluggish, you may wish to investigate replacing the hard drive with an SSD.

That was around the time when intel introduced flex mode. Paired channels have to be using the same amount. If it is 2gb+1gb sticks, 1gb out of the 2gb stick will be in channel 1 with the 1 gb stick in channel 2. That's dual channel, the remaining 1gb will be in single.

You can still often find ram with different sizes in laptop configurations, usually one 4GB and one 2GB, very strange thing to do IMO
