Yeah, it's old.

I'm mainly playing Planetside 2 these days, and this card runs just fine on lower resolutions, but looking to kick it up to (hopefully) 1920x1080.

CPU is an AMD X4 980, if it has any bearing on this discussion. 8Gb RAM.

Looking for something in the $300 range. Been leaning toward a 660 TI. Not completely opposed to considering an AMD card, but PhysX gets offloaded to the CPU with an AMD video card equipped, as I understand it. In the past I've been of the best bang-for-my-buck sort, but I find myself eager to try an Nvidia part.

Obviously, I haven't stayed in the game as far as hardware upgrades go. Is upgrading from my old 4870 to something like a 660 TI going to be a monumental difference, like getting my first 3dfx board was so long ago? Videos and screengrabs I've seen of others playing Planetside 2 look very different than what I see on my system. The textures of the players and vehicles on newer rigs look like they have, well, actual texture to them, whereas mine feels very 2004, if that makes any sense.

My primary question is what sort of difference can I expect by going to a much more modern card? I don't have access to another system to test-drive other hardware.

Thanks in advance, folks.
