Hey everyone, I have the G. Skill 1600 Mhz 2x4GB ram in my rig and I still have to spots open on my motherboard. I was wondering if I ever wanted to upgrade to 16GB would I need to buy a whole new set of 16GB ram or just another 8GB of what I own? Not sure if they are sold in sets for a reason or not. Thanks! :)

You should go for 2x4GB(total 8GB) kit as you currently have. Keep in mind to get same one that you currently have, to avoid any issues.

2x4GB kit will be best suit for you budget & needs. You don't need to buy a new set of 16GB kit. Just get 2x4GB kit one more as you have currently.

BIOS updates periodically contain RAM profiles for newer memory so that when you try to set the optimal profile it can.

Again though, just keep your 8GB kit unless you have some specific need like video editing. Adding more than 8GB is essentially ZERO benefit to gaming.

I agree with the general idea of 8 gigabytes being enough for almost all users.

Only power users NEED more.

In some cases, 2 identical kits can have different memory chips due to changes in a product line. I have seem 2 x 8 gigabyte kits work perfect and others have very minor issues.

For my money, I just get what I want/need off the bat(but I have mixed in the past with about a 90% success rate) to avoid any future issues(16 gigabytes would max out Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit in any case.).
