I currently have a board that that only has the pci express x16 slot. I just ordered a new GPU (Radeon HD 7870) and was wondering how much this board will hold my card back. If I really have to I will order a new board, but not unless this one will be holding my card back significantly. It may also be important to note that I have a SSD that is being held back by the SATA 2 on the board.

Current board:

New card:

-Furthermore is pci express 3.0 x16 worth switching to Intel?

Solution
it will not hold back at all.pci 2.0 = 3.0 in gaming

See no measurable difference @x16

Thank you for your quick response!
Also, for future reference, how do you easily search for crossfire compliant mobos? I was just browsing newegg and there didn't seem to be a quick way.
I've been out of the hardware game for a while, for all I know this question is irrelevant.

I ask because I will be replacing my mobo eventually, and would like to be able to crossfire when this card gets a little older.

well, one way is to sort them by price, cheap ones dont come with sli/xfire support usually.
or, well read reviews. or google something like z77 shootout, this will give you different brands/models that has z77.

also, be familiar (read around) with the chipsets so that you know the difference, it will help you a lot

Since I graduated (and have a real job now) I can afford to spend a little more as long as its worth it. I am also currently running an AMD setup. So those boards probably will not work for me. Unless you really think I should make the switch.
