Desktop. On the floor or on the desk?

I've noticed a lot of builds on pcpartpicker that people have put their computer on their desk. It takes up a lot of space and emits light in some cases. Why do people do this? I'm perfectly happy with my desktop beside the desk where it doesn't distract me with noise or light.

It's is because, Dust falls.. it really helps keeping dust in the pc to a minimum. That's really the only advantage, as well as buttons within better reach depending on the case, etc... but most of all cause of dust.

The reason for me is because I didn't spend ~$1200 on a computer to hide it on the floor. I want to look at it.

I get the dust issue but it is that much? I'm doubtful.

I understand people like to see it, but isn't the light and extra noise annoying?

The only lights on mine is the power/hdd activity, which I never notice. The fan noise doesn't bother me either. It's entirely up to you where you put it. You should dust it every once in a while regardless of where put it anyway.
