When I started my computer one day, the display and everything were zoomed in. I checked the resolution, but it it was the same default one i always use (1024 x 768).
This (http://bit.ly/11C8ayS) is how it looks now (Note the size of the screen and the number of screen resolutions available. I remember having 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 ONLY)

I was also wondering if i could change the screen resolution to something like 1600 x 1200 if no solution was found would slow down my computer.

1024x768 and 800x600 are standard VGA defaults. Check the drivers for your GPU - that is probably what is causing the problem.

If you are running on a laptop, those may be the only options for your display - if you have an external display, the resolution choices should return.

you could have an updated graphics card driver?
if you're referring to the large icons as your problem, that is nothing to do with screen resolution, right click teh desktop, view, small icons.

Do you have an extra monitor cable try? If there is a bent pin, missing pin, problem with cable, etc....this could be a reason.
