I'm currently running at 3.8 GHz @ 1.45 V and stable on an ASRock 970 Extreme4 MoBo. I'm wondering if anyone has overclocked on this board with this processor and what results they've had above and beyond 3.8 GHz? It took much more voltage to get stability at 3.8 GHz than it did at 3.7 GHz, which is normal, but I didn't think it would require 1.45 V. I know the board has a 4 + 1 power phase but I'm not sure if that is good enough to be pushing any more volts to the CPU?

-Thanks

How well is your Phenom doing with games these days? I currently have a X4 945 3.0 Ghz on an old Asus M2N-SLI mobo. I can't seem to be able to OC this chip very much with this board. I'm looking at getting the ASRock 970 Extreme4. I also have 2 GTX 560 ti's I'm carrying over. I plan on upgrading the mobo/ram, then in a few months upgrading the cpu to an 8350. I'm just hoping upgrading the mobo and hopefully opening up some OCing potential I'll see at least a marginal gain in CPU performance (with faster ram and all) and hopefully extend the life of my cpu a little more. I'm not getting the best fps in games these days, even on med/low settings. Do you guys think I'll get any significant performance increases with just the mobo/ram upgrade? I know the true increase will come with the cpu upgrade.
Anyways, how do you like your phenom builds for gaming?

All Phenom IIs are good. I also have a 945, which is probably the least overclockable of the Phenom IIs, but still a solid performer for current gaming. Your MoBo is a bit older, but if you do upgrade to the Asrock (also consider Gigabyte GA-970-UD3), although you might not feel such a significant performance bump from just upgrading memory from DDR2 to DDR3, you still might get a bit more overclocking juice out of your 945. Most games today are very GPU based so the processor is unlikely bottlenecking you. I'd wait at least a year until upgrading the Phenom II.
