Has anyone used a large four+ hard drive enclosure unit with a router's USB functions to act as the file server? I'm asking because this could save on the costs of me building a server and just tossing 8TBs worth of storage on the back of one of these USB ports.

The main purpose of the drives is to store movies/videos for my HTPCs around the house.

If someone has, do you have any recommendations on the harddrive enclosure or router to use? I've heard that Tomato has great USB functions, so I might flash the router with that too.

Enclosure I'm using as an example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256090

Or...does this sound like a stupid plan...
