DIrectly accessing External IP directly through router

Here is my situation:

I have 2 static IP's (IP1 and IP2) connected directly to the internet through Comcast Business Acct. IP1 goes to my Linksys router and then there are 5 PCs hooked up in a LAN behind that router like so 192.168.1.100 - 192.168.1.104. (DHCP is turned off)

I also have a Synology NAS connected directly to my other static IP (IP2).

The problem is when I move files from a PC behind my router to the NAS I have to connect to IP2 and go through the slow internet connection speed.

I would like to be able to connect to the Synology NAS directly from my other 5 PCs behind the router without going through the internet and without moving the NAS inside the network so I could get higher speeds.

Could I maybe put a switch between the Comcast modem and the NAS and also connect my router to the switch and then it will use the direct connection?

Will this work? Is there any way to do this?

Thanks
Pete

How did you manage to get this hooked up without a switch. Cable modem systems are the easiest to get 2 IP since it is the modem itself that blocks the mac addresses. It should work as you describe when you use a switch. You should be allocated 2 ip within the same subnet so your devices should be able to talk to them directly.

If you are using 2 cable modems then yup it must go all the way back to the head end because the encryption keys are different.

I am assuming that you are running both your router and your NAS off of the same modem...say, a SMC gateway? If that's the case, you shouldn't be using another router. Remove the router and put in a switch, assign the static IP to the NAS and the other to the gateway, then assign Class C network IPs to the other five PCs. This will allow you to get LAN-like speeds on the NAS when accessed through the other PCs.

Edit: Yeah, bill001g is right... if you are using two separate modems you can't do what you're suggesting. It would be nice, but not at all possible.

It is SMC with 4 ports. and I have 5 static IPs. But I am only using 2 at the moment.
I need the router because I need wireless access.

In a nutshell here is what I need to do:
NAS connected to SMC modem on external static IP. NAS is accessible via the web and acts also as a mail server and other functions. Router connected to SMC modem through a DIFFERENT static IP. Router has 5 PC behind it. I need those 5 PCs to be able to access the NAS directly instead of going through the internet.

Thanks
