Display problems, trying to diagnose...

I've been having issues with my display for about a year. I've had it since late 2006.

When I power the monitor on, it is distorted for a period of time and then it goes back to normal. I've tried replacing the display cable and using the analog input and it does the same thing regardless.

I disassembled the monitor and didn't see any damaged capacitors, although I'm not an expert at looking for that. All the capacitor heads looked flat and I didn't see any leakage...just white paste in between some of them that I believe was put there on purpose in manufacturing.

Thanks for any help or advice.

First try it on another device or computer.
If it the same it is a monitor problem.
If it acts normal on the new device you have a Graphics card problem.
Which probably means a bad solder joint .
Research "reflow" to see if this is something you would consider doing.

Yeah I connected my work laptop to it with a VGA cable and it does the same thing. Personal laptop is Macbook Air connected via Displayport to DVI.

So it is definitely the display. Any advice or options there, other than replacing it?

Also note that the monitor seems to have less issues in colder weather.
