Well, since a 660 SLI is roughly around a GTX 680... look at how the top end cards performed today three years ago. Might give you an estimate.

I would safely say it would run games on at least mediumish settings in three years time.

what you guys thong about VRAM? will there be games able to use more than 2GB of VRAM on 1600x900 res (without AA of course)? with metro 2033 my vram usage already exceeding 1gb at 1600x900 under max setting without any AA

If you are using MSI afterburner and other programs, there is a difference between actual VRAM usage and VRAM allocation. Most, if not all programs are set to determine the VRAM allocated, which is why normally it is a constant number occasionally changing slightly. Real time VRAM usage monitoring would be a big strain on the system.

I have a 2GB card working at 1440p and I haven't once hit a VRAM wall even with Crysis 3 maxed out 8XAA.

Again, also remember your cards will run out of horsepower LONG before you run out of vram too.

The 660 rocks in SLI. See my post here.... toasts the 680, toasts the 7970 Ghz

here's the article the info is taken from

NOTE: You will have much more fps as the tests on those links are at 1920 x 1080

AVP is a bad example because of the high frame rates, as a result, the ending frame rate is alot more inflated than what it would be if you were running a game that normally runs at 45-60 FPS such as Crysis 3 and Battlefield 3.

At that resolution, sli 660's is overkill. I would wait for now and just sli when the need comes and the prices go down, or when/if you upgrade your monitor

The GTX 660's are a very good deal right now, generally below $200 with a free copy of Metro: Last Light. It seems like a great option to ensure that you maintain a comfortable performance level while not really running into a VRAM limit at your lower resolution. Trust me, Metro: Last Light with PhysX enabled will demand every bit of that SLI setup (same for Crysis 3, Battlefield 4, etc.).

GTX 650 Ti Boost Ti's in SLI are faster than every single GPU except Titan, so GTX 660's in SLI will be that much better. Your resolution isn't outrageously low, so I would say go for it.

thanks for the responds and opinions. honestly i'm well aware that 660 in sli might be overkill for my res but i might consider to add one 1080p monitor in the future for my gaming monitor and keep my current monitor as second monitor. most people going for sli for more performance but for me it is something i want to try and having fun with it.

I think that's a good reason to go for it, and I obviously do think that a pair will deliver noticeable results over a single GTX 660 in the more demanding games.

Get just 1 660 now to play everything on ultra (except Crysis 3 and Metro) for the next 1.5 years and then get the 760 or impending 860 when they come out so you can get 3 full years of close to ultra graphics. Well assuming you have the CPU to push the data ^.^
