My external hard drive's USB port seems to be bent or broken. It was working just fine then it randomly said it wasn't connected. It's still visible so it's not broken off inside of it. I've tried using other USB cords to see if it was the cord but none of them worked. What can I do?

The external hard drive is made up of a regular hard drive and a enclosure. The enclosure has the cable connecter, plugs that attach to the drive and a board that controls the drive and maybe a power source that plugs into the enclosure. You can open up your enclosure and take out the hard drive and take it to a computer parts store and buy a new enclosure that will work with the hard drive. put the HD into the new enclosure and plug it into your computer.

Inside the case is a small daughter board. If the board has gone bad it give you that hardware issue. If the drive is out of warranty the easy fix is buy another twenty dollar ext case and swap the drive into it. Or pull the drive out and slide it into your pc.
