I have an AMD Trinity A10-5800K APU that I'm running in my ASUS F2A85-V Pro motherboard.

I want to install a MSI HD 6950 discrete graphics (by itself) and disable the on board iGPU graphics, since the A10-5800K's graphics are unable to crossfire with a HD 6950.

I cant find a whole lot of usefull info, regarding what I'm wanting to do. The manual is about useless for a novice like me. On this web site, I read that when you install a discrete card.... the A10-5800K's graphics are supposed to "auto disable" the iGPU.... when you plug a discrete card into the pcie slot.

This just isn't working out for me.... as all I'm getting is a black screen when I boot back up after the install and swapping cables. The card is getting power from the 2 6 pin connectors and the card's fan is spinning. It displays a message box on my monitor to check the cable. (but the cable is alright)

I even tried going into display properties ahead of the hardware install....tried disabling the onboard graphics then shut down and installed the card but nothing will work. I then even removed the card and swap everything back to onboard graphics then installed the drivers for the HD 6950 which didn't show up either under display drivers I had it in and out 6 times already....help!!

my first question for you is why would you put a a10 APU with a discrete card. the sole purpose of getting a APU is to use the onboard graphics as the CPU side kinda sucks. getting a GPU along with a APU makes your investment for a APU pointless.

id try switching slots on the motherboard and seeing what happens

This is my first build and I had asked several members here for advice on selecting a build to include motherboard and CPU/GPU for my gaming build. I went with a recommendation that made a lot of sense because I was not able to afford a discrete graphics card at the time. It allowed me to play games until I could save up some money.

I was then able to buy a 2nd hand MSI HD6950 which I I know will be superior to the IGPU 's graphics.

I tried installing it in the PCIe x16 slot but I suppose I could try another slot. Its always possible there is a problem with the slot of even the MSI card itself. If the card is a brick...I'm not sure how I would be able to know that but the guy I bought it from seemed pretty trust worthy.

I'm thinking the problem has more something to do with switching the settings in the ASUS motherboard's BIOS under the ADVANCED settings. The BIOS show PCIe but I think there is another setting I must change before I shut down my computer and install the card again.

Unfortunately, I cant find any sort of video that shows how to install a discrete card with a A10-5800K or on an ASUS F2M85-V PRO motherboard. There has to be at least one "how to do it" video floating around...I'd think.

All the online videos I find which might possibly cover this, only show someone playing their favorite game, no narration, or just uselessly blasting music; during their idea of a tutorial/review video, which is totally useless to me.

I pretty much did all that ....only I disabled the iGPU rather than uninstall the driver for it.
I though that completely uninstalling it was a bad idea, since its a iGPU ....which is a HD 7600D as I recall.

I even read that you can select the iGPU for less intensive graphics and the discrete card would automatically kick in (not crossfire) when needed by the computer, for gaming. This is supposed to save electric... But again, you cant find anything about how to do this with my iGPU/Motherboard combo.

But yes..when I restart it with the iGPU graphics disabled and the MSI installed in the x16 slot, all I get is a black screen and a message to check my cable.

Yep...cable is plugged in. I have tried it in both motherboard and discrete card.
The BIOS were tried/set various ways to include the current setting of PRIMARY VIDEO is set to PCIe. I have tried it with MULTI MONITOR set to both ON and OFF.
