What do you need your computer for? Gaming, video editing...?
  2. it's only for gaming really
  3. I would recommend an i5 3570 but it would require you to get a motherboard with a Z77 socket. I reckon it's worth it though, I should think there would be performance issues with your current first gen i5.

Ok, then I would keep it :)
And if you want to upgrade in the future: For gaming, I would not go for an 8 core AMD, since most games don't take use of multiple cores / more than 2-4 cores.
  5. yer i was looking at the i5 and a motherboard for it came to about £250, i just thought my cpu atm may be bottle necking my graphics card.
david you would keep the cpu? i thought the 650 were pretty bad cpu's
i want to get the best out of my pc, atm i have

    i5 650 3.2
    ati sapphire hd 7850 1gb
4 gb ram (soon upgrading to 8gb)
medion mb not sure what model
    ocz 500 w psu

I don't think that the i5 will hold back your GPU. But I can not confirm it, since I have never owned a setup like yours :-/
Does anybody here @Tomshardware knows if the CPU will hold back the GPU?

Btw: What kind of games do you play? And at what resolution?
  7. The i5 650 won't really bottleneck a 7850.
I'd say hold off your upgrade, The new generation of Intel Core i CPUs, i.e. Haswell is weeks away from release & it will be using a new Socket.
  8. Never seen a set up like mine? Is that a bad thing aha. Thanks Bart I will keep that in mind

No, I never owned a setup like yours, because I got my first gaming PC like a month ago :)
