Hi i'm just wondering how well could this system play games such as battlefield 3, crysis 3 and Shogun 2 - Total War

Motherboard - M5A97 PRO
CPU - AMD FX-8350 with H60 Cooler
GPU - Sapphire Vapor X 7950 3gb
HDD - 1TB
RAM - 16GB (2*8GB)
PSU - Corsair 600w

any advice will be grateful

Yeah that's going to be pretty solid. It's not going to max Crysis 3, but it will run well on higher settings at most resolutions.

I would suggest a final build that looks something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.0GHz 8-Core Processor ($199.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 74.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($60.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($92.55 @ Newegg)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($55.25 @ Newegg)

Case: NZXT Tempest 210 ATX Mid Tower Case ($54.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply ($54.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS95 DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (OEM) (64-bit) ($99.99 @ Newegg)

I have just a couple suggestions for possible changes:

First, I dropped the RAM down to 8GB as 16 is overkill for gaming. No game out there can even take full advantage of the 8.

Next, I would suggest dropping down to the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO cooler for $30 less. It performs about the same as the H60.

CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler ($29.99 @ Newegg)

Maybe you can use the savings from those two items to up the graphics card to a 7970.

I'd personally go Intel if you're going to be gaming - much better CPU in the long run than the AMD FX-8350.

This is a bit more but I think it would be a better build:
