Dying PSU or GPU?

For the past two weeks ive been plagued by a problem I cant figure out. While under load (graphics dependent games like CS GO, WoW etc) my computer will suddenly turn off like someone pulled the plug. All other tasks are fine such as browsing and videos etc. Its not temp related, as my GTX 560 is running around 35 idle, case temp is 19, and cpu is around 27 idle. My memory and hdd all passed furmark and memtest, and i completely cleaned out my case of all dust using an air compressor (with the correct tip!) and canned air. The ONLY thing I can think of is a dying PSU which is around 7+ years old. No blue screens, no BDOS, no RESTART. Just OFF.

Specs:
Windows 7 Home 64
4 Gigs Viper mem
1 TB Black WD Caviar
NVIDIA GTX 560
MSI p7n (if i remember correctly)
NXZT 800W PSU

it could be the PSU, but make sure u r using the latest drivers for everything!!
to test weather or not your PSU can take load of the GPU just put the GPU under load without starting a game like 3d mark 11 or well,
there are lots of others too.
and PSU's degrade with time but still it is a 800W PSU!!
and how long has this been happening

As stated it had started happening out of no where about 2 weeks ago. I cleaned everything out, re-applied new thermal compound (at first I thought it was heat), ran all the tests and it ran for a couple days. Then starting 2 days ago the same issue popped up. I DL the latest GPU drivers from nvidia to no avail.

Very much sounds like a dead PSU. I will say that PSUs failing can do all kinds of weird stuff, they don't all act the same when they die.

Also, the mechanism for heat protection on overheating CPUs is to just turn off. I would redo the thermal paste on the CPU just to eliminate that completely.

Can do, it WAS just re-applied last week BEFORE all the furmark tests. And after monitoring cpu temp it I dont believe it to be a problem. But dosent hurt to try

I had a similar issue but I replaced an 8800GTX (that I knew was dying) with a Radeon 6770 and it stopped. BUT, I'm inclined to think that going down from a 225W max GPU to a 150W max GPU may have masked the crappiness of my PSU. Was never able to tell for sure.

Ok guys, for those that know 3D Mark and the scores etc, I ran it with no shutdown to my computer. My score was P3586 with my GTX 560 out of what looks like 4500. PC health check with 3D mark was everything was running properly. So with these results and the computer NOT shutting down while under load and test, should I rule out my PSU and/or GPU? Im still stumped on how a game like CS GO can cause it to COMPLETELY shut down but a test like this one and furmark it can pass with flying colors. Help :(

Well after doing a system restore to almost a whole month ago, I have yet to have any problems with my computer shutting off. After reading around and diagnosing hardware individually, im almost certain it was an issue with drivers for my GTX. I even completely removed all traces and re-installed the newest ones and that did not fix it. With the system restore I am using older drivers that i KNOW are stable. Just a response for anyone thats having a similar problem, if I help one person, mission accomplished :D Thank you to everyone who chimed in
