current COD game

when i stopped playing COD i think it was modern warfare 2 that everyone was playing. now i'm itching to start playing again but notice there seems to be 2 titles out right now. i would hate to buy mw3 only to find out that everyone is playing black ops 2. are both the current cod game? if not, which one do i buy? i'd prefer the mw style as oppose to the black ops, just going off of the previous black ops and mw games.

BO 2 is the current one, although both have many active players. You know, they are both very similar. Gameplay is the same, graphics are the same, weapons are the same (more futuristic in BO2 but still..), multiplayer is practically the same too although there are some new game modes.
Maybe you should try to play them somewhere first, see which you like the most, cos they aren't cheap.
