Hi everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new ultrabook and have to decide between a configuration with an i5-3437U and one with an i7-3687U. I could use the extra CPU power of the i7 from time to time, and the price difference is not an issue.

However, I also want a good battery life and low fan noise, and I'm wondering how the i5 vs. i7 would affect that. Max TDP for both CPUs is 17W, and cpuboss.com claims that typical power consumption is the same for both (13.81W), but doesn't say where those values come from.

Can anyone give me a realistic idea of the difference between the two CPUs in terms of heat emission and power consumption in everyday use?
