Hello,

After my hard drive died a few days ago, I decided to switch to an ssd.
Anyway, just after hooking the ssd up and booting up the computer, i heard a small pop and then I smelled a faint odor of smoke.

Am i right to believe that it is the psu that is causing this problem? the computer can boot to bios just fine. I have examined my mobo for signs up leaky capacitors and can find nothing. My vid cards are spinning up just fine as well...just no hdd or ssd to run things on : (

I am beginning to suspect that my hdd may have also made a small pop, but i did not smell anything when that happened. Is the correct move here to get a replacement ssd, psu and then see how things work out?

Any help is much appreciated.

Its possible the psu overvolted and damaged the hdd and ssd.

Name brand is one way to decide on a power supply. But also consider going for a gold+ certified psu or a diamond+ certified psu. For the best longevity and preformance.
