High CPU Usage

Hey everyone, I have a Dell Studio 1558 Laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. It has been working flawlessly..until now. For the past two weeks I have been getting random high CPU usage. After about 20 minutes of use, the CPU maxes out to 100%. This even occurs when the computer is idling. The only way to resolve it is to restart the computer but it eventually happens again. I have tried running virus scans using Norton 360 and Malwarebytes but the computer always shuts down in the middle of the scan, even in safe mode! I really hope there is a way to fix this because the computer is unbearable to use when its maxed out.

wmiprvse.exe seems to always run high for some reason. I've tried to include a screenshot of process explorer but the forum won't let me. I've already confirmed my account so I'm not sure what is going on.

Do you have any gadgets running such as drive meter or cpu meter? If yes, this link may help: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/90387e52-dcb9-4137-b78f-25c2026a680b/

Thank you. The only gadget I have active is the standard CPU/RAM gauge. I will disable that and see if that improved. After reading the forum posts, I also have VMware Workstation 9 which seems to cause problems as well. I will check into this and see if I can fix the problem.
