Hello everyone,

Last time I was here you guys helped me greatly to build my first PC but that was a few years ago. Now I finally came across some extra money :bounce: and would like to make some upgrades.

My pc is having issues running the latest games. So any recommendation will be greatly appreciated.

My budget is $1500.

my currently machine specs.

Case: Cooler Master 932 HAF
Motherboard: Asus p7p55d-e pro
Processor: Intel i7 860 @ 3.37 GHz
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 5870
RAM: 8 GB
Disks: 1 250 GB SSD, 2 1TB HDD
OS: Windows 8

Solution

Unless you're plan to eventually play on multiple 1080p monitors, a single 7970 would play most games maxed out. Get a gHz Edition 7970 for more performance. If you wanna get a dual GPU card, however, the 690 is for you, but that's gonna cost you as well

Perhaps the weakest link in your rig now is your gfx card, it's pretty old already. You could get something like a 670 or 7970. Your i7 is still pretty decent and Haswell chips are around the corner, so I thinkl you could still hang on with it. However, if you do want to uograde that, the least I'd recommend is an i5-357k with an appropriate z77 mobo.

thanks for the quick answer guys.

So it looks like you guys agree on the same upgrades.

From a quick search I saw the 7970 for around $400, since I will have more money left over than anticipated. Would a crossfire of the HD 7970 would be an overkill?

I like to game on highest settings for GFX and I play on a 32" 1080p
