SAPPHIRE 7970 GHz - DVI issue

Hello Guys,

I need someones help, I'm really interested in buying the SAPPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 7970 GHz. I saw all the connectors that the GPU has and I noticed that both DVI connectors are both Dual link, not single. The port that the manufacturer said is single..is the DVI-D and that can't be true because I saw the picture of the GPU and it is clearly a Dual link not single. I need someone to tell me why the manufacturer says is single and not dual? I have a monitor the Asus VG248QE and I need to be sure if the card is a dual link dvi-D for my monitor. Can anyone help.

Exactly, now check on this link............ http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/tft-connection,931-8.html
compare it with the one in the GPU picture
  3. Doesn't mean they are going to use all the pins on the card. I honestly wouldn't worry too much about it and just buy the card. I have a asus 7950 and it runs dual link dvi just fine. You could plug a single link cable into the dual link slot as well it would just limit your refresh rate.

As well if you were worried get a displayport ( I believe you need active displayport adapter for amd cards?) and then you could run it with no worries at all.

thanks for your help buddy....I'm going to purchase the GPU and the display port just to be sure.
  7. No problem but I really think you'd turn out just fine with a dual link dvi cable connecting them. Also after doing some reading I believe you only need the active displayport adapter when running eyefinity setup. So you should be able to get by with just a passive minidisplayport to full size displayport cable

ok, will the card run at 144Hz with the display port?
  9. Yea it should run fine. I run displayport on the same monitor with my gtx titan card and it runs 144hz just fine. Your's just has more displayports on the card.

    Thanks again!!!
  11. Not a problem enjoy the monitor I know I do. I game with 3x of them in 3d makes the experience entirely different in my opinion.
