I have a core i3 3220 with 4gb ram and i'm saving to buy a video card, i want one that is more futureproof so that i don't have to upgrade for a while atleast. I play between 720p and 1600*900 resolutions. Will the HD 7790 be okay and also last for a couple of years playing games at medium/high with little or no AA.

7850 would be a better solution making it future proof for upcoming games and you can always overclock it. If thats too much, you can always grab a 7770 which can be overclocked to 7790 since all a 7790 is is an overclocked 7770

Depends on the quality you want. Before I got a new pc I had spent three years playing games on medium @ 720p with my 5650M. Although my pc was running older games such as Fallout 3 and Skyrim, the difference in power between the 5650 and the 7790 is quite large so you should be fine. I reckon you could play at medium at the absolute lowest. Probably high depending on your AA settings.
