A while back, I replaced a socket 775 motherboard with a refurbished one from eBay. However, this too has now failed (the power pins seem to be broken somehow).

Is it worth getting another legacy socket 775 motherboard so I can keep using my Core 2 Quad Q9550, or should I take the plunge and upgrade to an ivy bridge CPU and motherboard?

Is it worth holding out until the Intel Haswell CPUs are released? I have a laptop I can use for work (but not heavy gaming) in the mean time.

If I do upgrade, what would you recommend? I am thinking about the Intel Core i7 3770K, and have not yet decided on a motherboard.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks. One thing I forgot to mention is that I use the computer primarily for gaming (at least that's the most intensive thing I do on it).

Though the CPU is old, I really feel the graphics card is the weakest link (nVidia 9600GT), would it make more sense to get another Socket 775 motherboard for now and instead invest in a better GPU such as the GTX650/660Ti?
