Do I really need PCIe 3.0 if I'm only gaming in 1080p?

I have a chance to get a 670 from a friend for $300. I am currently using a 560ti. Problem is my 2500k doesn't support PCIe 3.0. I only game at 1080p so should I really need to get a new processor?

  1. Today's cards aren't even powerful enough to saturate the full bandwidth available from PCie 2.0. Going to 3.0 you won't lose much performance probably 1 or 2 FPS.
  2. Pci exp 2.0 = 3.0 in gaming

see no measurable difference @X16 speed

  3. The GTX 670 will run fine in a PCI-e 2.0 slot.
  4. I had no idea there really was no performance loss. Thank you guys for the replies. Much appreciated.
  5. pci-e 3.0 is a marketting gimic. gpus need 2 or 3 more generations before it will be nessessary. even the titan/690/7990 don't saturate a pci-e 2.0 x16 connection.
