Hello
Recently my ethernet port stopped connecting. The LED lights are off when the cable is connected. It happened after I bridges two connections to use my laptop as a router for my Xbox, but after I disabled and delete the bridge, my ethernet connection stopped working. Wifi still works.

There is not any indicator in the device manager that there is a defected driver or anything. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers but to no avail. I have tried to fix the adapter in BIOS settings again to no avail. I have tried rebooting, different ethernet ports, different ethernet cables, but nothing.

Also when i run ipconfig in the command prompt it shows "ethernet lan connection.....media disconnected.

If anybody knows the problem or any solution that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Request an rma from the board manufacturer; my asus will take about 3 weeks for the repair/replacement from the time I mailed it to the time I receive it. Or you can purchase a separate lan card for $5-10; goodwill carries them; also frys electronics.

The weird thing is...is I don't think it has anything to do with my computer or any parts. Whenever I plug in the Ethernet cable from my laptop directly into my Xbox and turn it on, the LED lights are back on (obviously w/o any connection from an Xbox) so I ruled out a defective laptop & cable. I think it's from my Ethernet wall socket.

I called my apartment maintenance and they ran a signal test and the socket had a great signal. This even baffled them.

Does the laptop work if yopu connect it to a switch elsewhere? The Ethernet wall socket probably is connected to a building switch. The cable may be fine, but depending on what you did, the port could have been damaged. Did you ask maintenace to connect it to a different port?

It worked in my roommates room. How could the port have been damaged?

You didn't explain how you bridged the Ethernet connections, but it may be the root cause of the issue. The Ethernet cable will have to be moved to another port, but at least you can now show the building maintenance that your laptop connects in another room, but it doesn't in yours.

I bridged it using a wifi connection. I connected my laptop to a wifi connection, plugged an ethernet cable from my laptop to the xbox and bridged them. After that the ethernet slot in the wall stopped working. Weird
