Hey,
I am trying to record GTA IV with Dxtory on my system and it has a very large slow down.
Specs:
Intel i5 3570k
Radeon HD 7950
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
Hitachi (I think) 140GB Hard drive
Hitachi USB 2.0 1TB External Hard drive

I run GTA IV on max settings apart from x2 anisotropic thingy... Without recording I get around 60fps solid, but when I record it drops easily to 30-40fps, mainly 30fps??
I ran write speed tests on both hard drives and my 140GB got about 50MB/s (bad) and my external drive (which I record to) 28MB/s (0.0). Is this why I get a slow down? Because of the poor write speed?
I was thinking of investing in a WD Caviar Black 500GB for pure recording to, if this will cure it then I will get it ;)

Any help?

P.S. Graphics card is at latest update (13.2)
Processor is clocked at 3.4ghz
GPU is clocked at 800mhz.

If you need anything else then please say :)

What recorder are you using? Usually this happens with any recorder when its on the same PC.

Hey Cyberman222!
Just thought I'd ask... you do know that GTA IV has an in-game recorder right?
Also do you have the latest patch for GTA IV? If you absolutely want to use the Dxtory recorder then I'd suggest disabling the in-game one. I don't remember the name of the tab off the top of my head (although it could be the 'Game' tab) but you can do it from the Main Menu or the Pause Menu. Go to the last tab on the right and the only option will be to Enable or Disable the in-game recorder. If it isn't the last tab, my bad, just check all of them. I found that disabling it worked wonders for my FPS but I probably experience more drastic changes than you would considering I have an i3-3110M with Intergrated Graphics :/ Just give it a go and tell me if it works or not ;)
Cheers

Hey, thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it when I can but sadly I am not at the same location as my computer right now. I'll definitely get back to you if it works.
Thanks again.

Hey again, just tried it out and it doesn't seem to help much (disabling clip capture) and recording using in-game feature only lasts up to 1 minute, I was looking for much longer as I wanted to play LCPDFR but nevermind...
Tried searching on the internet and just got the answer "it was a bad port to PC", not really helping me so I guess I'll have to ditch LCPDFR and play/record something else... I don't understand how people on YouTube can record it and have ENB and other stuff and it is perfect? I think it is because of my quad core, GTA supposedly runs on 4 and if I'm using 1 for recording then it will slow down I guess, I would get a new CPU e.g. some 6 core thing, but I only just built this PC and that would just be a mockery.
Thanks for the help anyway, I might still get the new HDD but knowing it won't help sucks...
Cheers anyway.

Well, the most optimized recording software for gaming is Fraps. But it takes size when saving. So, if you want to upload it on youtube, i suggest using HandBrake, and check "Web Optimized".

Hey Cyberman222,
I'm sorry that it hasn't worked out :( A problem like this likely has nothing to do with your CPU, its brilliant by all means. It's most likely your RAM if nothing else that's to blame. GTA IV is super-RAM intensive and having it plus a recorder running no doubt takes its toll. Maybe try lowering all your settings then recording. If that works better then RAM is definitely the problem. Oh and GTA IV is most definitely one of the most badly ported PC game of all time. I had to install a patch, textures and insert some code into a CommandLine document before it worked -_- Anyway give it a go and tell me if it does anything ;)
