Hey guys

Back in November I started a post were I asked your help for building a new pc for both 3D movies thrue HTPC and usefull for my work too.

I ended up assembling these parts with my good friend David :

1- NZXT Phantom 410 ATX Steel Computer Case 3X5.25 6X3.5 3XUSB3.0 Audio and Mic Input - WHT&BLU 110,23 $
2- Corsair TX650 V2 650W ATX 12V Single Rail 60A 24PIN ATX Power Supply Active PFC 80PLUS Bronze 67,14 $
3- Intel Core i5 3570K Unlocked Quad Core Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Ivy Bridge 6MB Retail 251,44 $
4- ASRock Z77 EXTREME4 ATX LGA1155 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2PCI SATA3 DVI HDMI USB3.0 Motherboard 90,43 $
5- OCZ Agility 3 120GB 2.5in SATA3 SandForce SF-2281 SSD Solid State Disk Flash Drive 94,49 $
6- ASUS Radeon HD 7770 V2 DirectCU 1020MHZ 1GB 4.6GHZ GDDR5 2xDVI HDMI DisplayPort PCI-E Video Card 97,07 $
7- ASUS Xonar DS 7.1 Channel PCI Sound Card 24BIT DTS SPDIF w/ Low Profile Bracket 47,72 $
8- ASUS BW-12B1ST Blu-Ray Writer 12X BD-R 16X DVD+R SATA Black Retail 55,57 $
9- Corsair XMS3 CMX16GX3M2A1600C11 16GB 2X8GB DDR3-1600 CL11-11-11-30 1.5V Dual Channel Memory Kit 55,07$
10-WINDOWS 8 PRO EDITION 64Bits 80,00$
Total 949,17$

Just five months later, here are the updates or facts :

1- I did not received 50% of the remittances dues by the manufacturer by mail. Many are just 5$ or 10$ pre-paid carton cards by American Express witch I have no clue where to spend them. Maybe at ncix.com....again. :)

2-I found out my needs are for a much more stronger pc. I watch many movies from a streaming web site witch I pay 9,99$ per month but it freeze the movie and the sound if too much software are open at the same time. Believe me only one IE page is enough to get quality. Open another software like Excel or Word and it starts freezing.

I think is already the time for me to upgrade some parts. First, I should bought an I7 in the first place. Two, my SSD is two small. Third, my HD7770 graphic card is so so and so is my memory. I have often 10 Excel pages opened at the same times and it crashed the pc.

Do you have good upgrades for me?

Thanks

This is why I avoid mail in rebates like the plague. If they can afford to sell it to me at the price - rebate, then do that. I have no desire to loan them $10 for 3 months, and maybe they'll give it back to me.

I do too, mail in rebates are a massive scam. I bought a power supply and sent the mail in rebate to OCZ following all the instructions. They sent me an e-mail saying the rebate didn't take effect until the day AFTER I bought the power supply. :pfff:

The PC you have built, if everything is working as it should, ought to be more than sufficient for the tasks you describe it struggling with in your post. 16GB ram should handle 50 or more Excel Spreadsheets (assuming they're not monstrous ones!) with 20 IE tabs open too.
Something is clearly wrong. It could be a software or hardware issue. I suggest rather than randomly spending more money on new parts you take some time to try and figure out what the problem is.
Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- is your SSD full (like less than 1-2GB free?). This can cause system instability and basically break everything
- you don't list a HDD? Because SSDs are so expensive per GB, the usual practice is a small SSD for your OS and programs and a large HDD where you store your documents, data, downloads, pictures, movies, music, etc.

If you have plenty of space on you SSD (more than 20GB). Some other things to try.
- if your computer ran okay at first, it might be a malware/software issue. You can try ccleaner and virus scanners, but sometimes it's easier to save your data and reinstall Windows and your other programs from scratch
- use HW-Monitor to check your temperatures. Perhaps the CPU fan wasn't installed properly and it's causing issues
- use memtest to check your RAM. A dodgy RAM stick can cause all sorts of random issues.
I feel your pain, this is frustrating! I think you've made good hardware choices though and once you figure out whatever's messing up your system you'll have a great rig for several years to come.
Good luck!
