Any truth to the rummers.

I have a delema. I currently have an i7 960 LGA 1366 x58 system over clocked to 4.2 GHz and I am looking to upgrade. So I was thinkin of going LGA 2011 x79 and like a Sandy Bridge-e 3960K but that would mean getting a new MoBo and RAM. I am currently thinking of just getting a 990x because they are now cheap at $890-$950 because there are some rumors out there. So I want to know if there are any truths to the rumors before I make my choice. They are...

1 - Intel might sckip the Ivy Bridge-E CPU all togehter because the Haswells are coming out.

2 - The Intel Ivy Bridge-E might not work with the current x79 which would mean new MoBos or firmware upgrades.

If either of these are correct, I might just go with the 990x for now and wait or go with an Ivy Bridge z77 system but LGA 1155 are do to be phased out just like the 1366 already is.

Thanks for any input.

No one knows until it happens. But one thing I know is that it's better to get a 3570k then any old 6 cores, the per core speed caught up. Anyway, from my opinions about thr original question, is that they will not skip Ivy Bridge-E as they made the 3970x (a Sandy Bridge based processor) not long ago (Ivy Bridge was out), but of course, that's if they were ever planning on Ivy Bridge-E, now for the whole new socket thing, I think it would be a new socket because even though Ivy Bridge-E is still Ivy Bridge, it's a new platform, although this is another reason why I don't think Ivy Bridge-E was planned.

That’s what I was worried about. We already know the Haswell is going to be a LGA 1150 so this would mean a new Mobo anyways but if they made an extreme addition Ivy Bridge they may as well just make an Extreme addition Haswell and like you said chances are it will not use LGA 2011.

So in the end I think I will just go with the 990x because it will be cheaper than buying a new Mobo, RAM that is soon to be phased out with no future. I think this will tide me over until the new Haswells come out.

Now another rumor I heard is that the Haswells will not be all that much faster but they will use half the power of current 3rd generation CPUs to try to keep up with the new Mobile Computer trend.

Is there any truth to this?

Is Intel planning on getting into the ARM processor market?

Thanks for any input.
