I have a Sony Vaio VPCCW17FX laptop, on the bottom right is a switch for the wifi, on/off. both have a light, neither are working and the switch doesnt work. The wifi is permanently off. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn it back on through the system.

Is there any way to do this?

If the hardware switch is permanently off the only solution is to fix the switch. This will obviously require a bit of surgery on the laptop. You may not be so adventurous (and there is some risk in this), which leaves two choices:

1. find a repair shop to fix the switch
2. use a USB wifi dongle.

First, acquire some electronic skills....:)

It could be a physical issue...the switch not being able to move far enough to the right to turn it on.
or
A wiring issue...some bit of wire is broken.

Probably the easiest and cheapest way for you is to get a USB wifi dongle. ~$10-15 at Amazon.

I have some electronic skills, enough to build a desktop, but if the easiest/cheapest way is to get a usb dongle, what are some good cheap ones?
