Need help diagnosing a BSOD on a new build

Greetings, I just recently built a nice, new computer:

Intel 3770k
Asus Maximus V Extreme
16gb Corsair Vengeance 4x4gb kit
2x EVGA GTX 670 FTW+ 4gb
Sound Blaster Z
128gb Samsung 840 SSD
1tb WD Black SATA

I have gotten 3 BSOD's in the 2 weeks I have had it up and running. They occur only on sleep/hibernate. After some research and downloading a handy debugger called WhoCrashed, I am less worried about potentially needing an RMA, but it is annoying nonetheless. If I should be concerned with hardware, I am definitely open to it and it is honestly my first suspicion. The WinDbg analysis follows:

WhoCrashed has an analysis of:

On Sat 4/20/2013 8:35:56 PM GMT your computer crashed
crash dump file: C:\Windows\Minidump\042013-9640-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe (nt+0x75C00)
Bugcheck code: 0x9F (0x3, 0xFFFFFA800D6A3880, 0xFFFFF80000B9C3D8, 0xFFFFFA8013B48E10)
Error: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
file path: C:\Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
company: Microsoft Corporation
description: NT Kernel & System
Bug check description: This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.
This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.
The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.

I have read that occasionally 3rd party firewalls can cause these issues, and with that in mind I am running BitDefender Internet Security 2013, which includes a firewall. Any help in solving this annoyance would be greatly appreciated!

BIOS and GPU drivers were updated within 24 hours of initial bootup of the system 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, I neglected the sound card, but I am somewhat doubtful the drivers for the SB Z will solve it. Here's hoping, though! Any other suggestions would be welcome, and I'll keep you posted.

Are you running xp or windows 7??? The new z77 chipsets made for windows 7 and newer os. Some older os won't run right on the newer chipsets. Asus now with there newest bios have one for xp users and one for window 7 users for there efi bios. Also with a 3 party sound card did you turn off the onboard sound chipset??

I am not sure precisely what you mean by whether the SSD is setup properly. Checking online, yes, it was, but I see no odd hurdles there to warrant a question. Firmware is all up-to-date with both the SSD and mobo.

Just had my first bluescreen today since the 20th, so updating my sound card driver didn't fix it. I HAD disabled my onboard sound in the BIOS, but I also reset the CMOS somewhere along the line just to get a factory start again. I did not again disable the onboard sound, so I have done that. I guess I wait another week before swapping playing with video card positions/removal to see if that will help.

Win7 Pro. I had previously disabled onboard sound, but I also tried resetting the CMOS somewhere along the line. Disabling the onboard sound was missed there, so I have again done it. I am experience blue screens about once per week, so here's hoping... I'll check back in here a bit more frequently.

got the alchemy sound driver fix installed?

disable windows auto update and driver updates ( 2 different things ). unnistall the nvidia sound drivers. check bios on reboot to make sure the on board sound is still disabled.

also, go into nvidia control panel and check the throttling voltages on the card. set to max performance.

I see nothing on Creative's support site about any ALchemy fix? I've downloaded the driver from: http://support.creative.com/download/?h=7

HD Legacy Sound is still disabled within the BIOS; however, after I uninstall the nVidia sound drivers, they just come right back on reboot. Are they not actually on the video cards? I go into sound devices and they're attached to HDMI audio devices available for screens.

Disabling automatic updates within Windows Update and the hardware device driver automatic install from the Advanced System Settings are the 2 different things you meant, correct?

I also see nothing regarding voltages within nVidia's control panel. If I want to tweak voltages, I usually pull up Precision X? Everything is pretty tame there except for the fan profile... at least until I get these minor bugs hammered out.

maybe the alchemy driver is included or no longer needed... at this [point it won't hurt.

http://support.creative.com/downloads/welcome.aspx?nDriverType=-1#

in the nvidia control panel........ has something about the card throttling. will load a driver and check for terminology for you. not about voltage.
yes on the 2 driver things.
uninstall the nvidia drivers. reboot. after reboot install nvidia drivers and do a custom or advanced install. install graphics driver and physx driver. nothing else.
also, in the device manager. HDMI HD driver........... that should not be there/enabled. uninstall. may uninstall when you uninstall nvidia drivers.

The nVidia HD Sound drivers were successfully uninstalled last night. I then did the custom install to ensure that only grahics and physX were reinstalled (3d Vision and nVidia Update were already there to confirm), then this morning I discover it blue screened sometime in the night. Coincidence? Possibly, but that's one more fix tried to no avail. There was no HDMI HD driver, I had just gone into the sound devices and tracked where nVidia HD Sound went... to me, it appeared to be an option to allow for sound on HDMI monitors with a speaker. I am seriously considering just letting it either run 24/7 or shutting it down fully when not in use. I am a guy who likes answers, though...

your ssd repairs itself when the computer is in idle state. don't let the machine go to sleep. this may be a problem.

the thing I mentioned about the power..... think it was this thread....

nvidia control panel/manage 3d settings/power managemant mode/prefer maximum settings.

If you're still getting the 0x9F, analyse the crash dump again then use "!irp fffffa8013b48e10" = !irp plus the code of the Parameter 4/Arg4, the blocked IRP.

When it shows the data, look down the left side for the 'caret' = '>', this should indicate the driver (or a driver closely related to) with the problem. Update the 3rd party drivers associated with it, eg. ndis.sys/tcpip.sys = network.

If it happens during Sleep/Wake, check the properties for the 3rd party drivers in Device Manager, look for any power saving settings, especially for network/wireless.

For W7 x64, you need drivers newer than 2011 for best stability, also you have an ASUS 'board, some of the drivers for their utilities are known to be problematic with W7, you can uninstall them to test.

Thank you for the fresh take, satrow. Unfortunately, the driver is remarkably nondescript: Success Error Cancel pending
\Driver\ACPI

I am aware of ACPI and how tracking it down for errors is... challenging? Although, I am slowly getting closer with each fix attempted. I'll get it. :) I will rotate through some of my Asus drivers to see if this will help. Keep the suggestions coming, please!

You have a 128gb SSD which I assume to be your OS drive, it could be that there is not enough space on the drive for a decent hibernate or sleep mode. Hibernate requires a lot more space than sleep, perhaps rather than either of those two options, you just shut down the PC?

About 60 gigs free. ;) I have disabled hibernate for the time being, though. I believe I have enough .dmp's to diagnose the problem.

Hibernate takes about 10% of your total volume of the hard drive whereas Sleep mode only takes about 3gb.

When did you install the Sound Blaster Z, it can cause issues on some systems, you could try removing it temporarily to see if the issue no longer occurs. Minimum System Requirements for the Creative Sound Blaster Z

http://uk.store.creative.com/sound-blaster/sound-blaster-z/1-21402.aspx

- Intel® Core™ 2 Duo or AMD® equivalent processor, 2.2GHz or faster recommended.
- Intel, AMD or 100% compatible motherboard
- Microsoft® Windows® 8 (32/64-bit) ; Windows 7 (32/64-bit)
- 1GB RAM
- >600 MB of free hard disk space
- Available PCI Express® (x1, x4 or x16) slot
- Available CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive

There is no mention of Vista compatibility.

What is your OS?
The information you have provided seems to infer Vista x64.
