So for my first build I unplugged the HDD to fully install windows 8 on my 60gb SSD and after that went to installing mobo drivers.
Something was working with a sata driver because windows kept trying to restore itself.
I cannot find it HDD in the task manager and I cannot reformat it. It is in the bios but I cannot put it in the boot drive. I cannot reformat it because it says its unallocated... please help thanks.

Hi
- check you Device manager for any missing drivers - yellow marks ...
- if you have any you may need Mobo chipset drivers
- Install missing drivers
- after you `r OK in Device Manager go to Computer Manager - right click on My Computer - Manage
- choose Disk managmend
- now in the lower section are listed all drives you system see
- if you see the drive in BIOS you must see it there
- right click over second one ( stated unlocated ) - new partition - Next - Next - format it
- done

Tri to check you have wrong Mobo drives used ....

I have downloaded the drivers via the Asrock website and started to install them using a usb, when i got to the SATA drives Windows 8 kept trying to restore itself after the install... should I uninstall all the drivers and then boot them from the disk? I am not really sure how to do that.

if your drives are connected to the chipset controller then the built in sata drivers will work fine and you shouldn't really need anything but the chipset drivers. What motherbd do you have?

I had a similar issue. I built a new system and installed Win 7 on the SSD without any problem. The HDD showed in the bios, but did not show up in windows.

I found the solution in this link, followed the directions, and it solved my problem. Hopefully, it will work just as well for you.

I`m thinking of 2-3 ver. why you don`t see the SSD
1. You have connect it to one of the 8 SATA ports and you have lucky to aim the one is shared with e-sata on the back of the PC and you have other one HDD there - (SATA3_A1 connector is shared with eSATA3 port)
2. You have driver problems with 2 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors by ASMedia ASM1061 and you have conected the SSD on those
3. You have some other problem i can`t figure out now what the f**k :)

Make this simple test - plug the SATA cable of the SSD to other free 7 ports you have
I belive you gonna see it in Computer - Management -> Disk Management on one of them ...
