Hey guys...

I consider myself somewhat tech savvy, but my problem is very peculiar. I've always been able to fix stuff myself or with the help of google, but this one is confusing me. My laptop has run -flawlessly- except for this problem which has sprung up out of literally no where.

It keeps locking up a lot, hanging if you will, becoming "unresponsive". This happened out of nowhere while I was using it. I clicked the Firefox icon and nothing happened. I clicked all kinds of stuff and nothing happened. Did Control + Alt + Delete, nothing happened. But the mouse was working, I could play around on the desktop and select a bunch of icons, but clicking them did nothing.

So then it all started working suddenly a minute later and Firefox opened like 10 windows and the Control + Alt + Delete registered and popped up, so I opened Task Manager.. nothing suspicious was there. I closed all the Firefox windows, and then it bogged down again.

I restarted my computer (several times), and upon start up it seemed okay, then within 30 seconds to minutes, it started locking up. I waited for it to become responsive again and it would act completely normal for a minute or two, as if it was okay again. Then it would happen yet again.

I restarted in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking. Same stuff happened..

I restored my computer to my last restore point (which was like 5 am this morning). That didn't help. I checked my startup services etc and nothing seemed out of order.

I also ran Malwarebytes and Glarys

Right now I am 13% into a chkdsk /r. I had 4 unreadable sectors (?? does that sound right) in the 1st or 2nd step? would this have caused the problem???

Would Killdisk + Reformat fix the problem? Could this be hardware related?

So unplug/replug my ram stick then run that?

That will be my next shot after chkdsk completes.. it's going rather slow
