Hi there,

my old HDD failed, so i've brought i new 1TB Western Digital blue. this week.

ultimately i will install windows 7 64bit which i brought last year. but this is an upgrade version and therefore i'm trying to install windows xp first to over come this issue.

Each time i attempt the install it is loading files, locating drives etc, but when it states it need to restart the pc, it brings me to the problem i've been having for the past 24hours,

"error loading,
press ctrl alt del to restart"

no matter how many times i've done this it won't get any further.
this copy of xp has worked previously for me as i used it prior to xmas. has no visable scratches on it.
My pc is a custom build of about 12months old.

Have also tried installing the win 7 upgrade disk, but this fails at 60% stating error 0x80070570

please any help would be great.
thanks Manners

Hi

can you boot your Windows 7 DVD and start the install without errors ?

(when asked for key do not enter it and select correct version, Home Basic, Home Premium. Pro etc)

If not get WD bootable diagnostic disk image from WD to test hard disk.

there are plenty of tutorials on how to re install W7 or Vista upgrade versions
( I am not condoning piracy just avoiding the problem that XP CD will not support modern PC chipsets)

regards
Mike Barnes

Check that the new hard drive on the intel or amd Sata port. Some mb have 3 party Sata chipsets and can cause issues. In the bios check that the Sata chipset set to achi mode. If it not the drive it could be a bad stick of ram that damaging windows install files. May want boot from hirem boot cd and run memtest. I would also do a fdisk/ mbr and a fdisk and remove all Parton info and start again. You should be able to boot from windows 7 upgrade cd and then place the
Xp cd in the tray when windows 7 can't find xp on your hard drive. Then point the windows 7 installer to the xp cd in your drive.

I still couldn't understand the scenario but what I think this might help you -

Boot from XP CD and once all files get loaded press R, a command prompt type of Window will appear next. In it first type fixboot and then press enter, wait for few seconds and then type fixmbr and then press enter and then restart your PC and see what happens or restart the XP installation.

I i'm only getting to about 60% with win 7 and then it fails with error 0x8007050570, gets to expanding files then fails. now its 56%

I then tried the xp route but am having no joy with this either. the HDD was brought from ebuyer on friday so hasn't been used as such.

tried the entering of "r" whilst it loads but to no avail, returns to main screen and says that there is no operating system, if i change the boot order to cdrom first it just keeps going through the same thing over and over.
