Laptop screen turns white

When you are doing something is it tasking the system or like just surfing the web and basic stuff? Turning white do you mean it looks like the backlight is on and not displaying a image or washed out but with some image detail?
It could be heat, corrupt drivers, or none of those. Some more info would be helpful like what you are doing when it happens does it take the laptop a while to do this after power on is the system still responding or does it seem to be locked up at that point?
