Stuck at 640x480 resolution

Hello, hopefully you guys can help me with this one.

Up until yesterday, my computer was working fine. I decided it was time for a cleaning so I took it outside and blew it out with a can of air. When I hooked everything back up and turned it on, I was stuck in 640x480 resolution with no options to change it.

I have an ATI 5870 HD. I've updated and rolled back the driver and nothing has made a difference.

The only thing that recently changed was that I updated my motherboard bios, but the computer was working fine after doing so. The was no sign of any problems prior to this.

The other thing that seems strange is that when shutting down and restarting, the computer doesn't want to recognize the monitor. It took dozens of tries this morning to finally get the monitor to turn on when the computer did. Most times, it would enter sleep mode as soon as the computer was turned on.

Also, when booting up, I am unable to enter the BIOS menu. If I try, nothing happens and the monitor won't turn on. I also found that the only way I hear the normal start up sounds from Windows is if I disconnect my mouse, keyboard, printer and monitor.

Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution > Try to change to whatever your monitor originally was.

Also, have you connected the video card to the MOBO and have it going to the monitor properly? The reason I say that is because it seems there may be a signal issue.

I have no other resolutions to choose from, that's the problem. To be sure something hadn't been knocked loose, I removed and reseated the video card. I also checked all the other connections as well.

Hm that is very weird. Try removing the GPU entirely and try rebooting and if it does the low resolution, try going to the settings again. Maybe your GPU has failed? If you remove it, the CPU will be loading video so try that. Just remove the video card and see what happens. You need to remove the signal cable from the GPU and move it to the MOBO as well.

If I remove my video card, how do I plug my monitor in?
