Hi, I am using ASUS U56E laptop, which came with Window 7, i installed Windows 8(3 month trial version). Now I am trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 using the bootable dvd. I changed my BIOS setting to boot from the dvd first and deleted all other priorities, but for some reason it says "Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected boot devices and press a key" with a black screen. I must boot the dvd in order to install the OS, because when I tried to install it without booting the dvd, it doesn't install properly. Hope someone can help, would really appreciate your effort. Thank you.

If you put it in a different PC, and it still doesn't boot from that DVD, then the DVD is faulty. Either a bad disk, or you didn't create it properly.

"Reboot and select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected boot devices and press a key" means that the system cannot find anything to boot from.

Whatever your DVD burning software is, it has an option to "Burn ISO image" (or words to that effect). This will make that DVD bootable, from Windows 7 installation ISO file.

All I can say is use the proper encryption protocol (WEP/WPA/whatever), with the correct password.
