Hey guys,
I recently purchased a Sony S15 laptop, one of the early '13 models with Windows 8 on it. So far I'm enjoying it--aside from one main issue, gaming lag. This is something I only experience on wireless (and on multiple networks, not just my home), though it seems to be fine on ethernet, and only on this laptop running Windows 8. I run anything on Win7 on my home network or these other networks and I've never had an issue.
Yes, I completely understand that wireless can be unstable. No, my wireless connection is not. I've played side-by-side with other people running Win7 who have completely seamless connections. I'll be running perfectly well but get massive latency spikes every dozen to thirty seconds. I've done some looking into it and people have reported issues with the 'Homegroup sharing' or 'Apps' trying to connect or sync and disrupting it. I've tried to disable these functions with no success (at dropping the ping).
The main culprit is svchost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation), which I know can be many things, but could help pin it down.
Thanks in advance.
tldr; Wireless on Win8 has periodic lag spikes while same wireless on Win7 does not. Ethernet on Win8 runs without spikes.
