Hi, I would like to build a HTPC / Gaming rig that I will be using on my 55" LCD TV. I am out of the loop in regards to what hardware will best suite my needs. I will use this build to watch movies, game, and also for photo editing. I have been considering using the bitfenix prodigy as my case. Can someone help me with the rest of the components. I am looking to spend about $1000.00. Your help is appreciated .

The intel cpu's run cooler and in an ITX format that will be an advantage .

You should use an Intel i5 perocessor like the 3470 , 3550 , 3570k , or i7 3770k . K if you want to overclock

You need a mini-ITX motherboard with a Z77 chipset to overclock , and probably H77 if you wont

2 x4 gig of 1600 MHz RAM rated for 1.5 volts

Your TV is probably 1080p so you start to get good performance with a GTX 660 or higher card . Perhaps a 660ti , or Radeon 7950 are in your budget . Probably the nVidia 660ti since it runs cooler

You will need a 500 - 600 watt 80+ bronze or better power supply

An SSD will help with boot and loading times . You can use a small SSD as a cache drive , or install a larger 128 as a boot drive .

I cant see much point using the water cooler in a prodigy . It sits in the front nd the hot air from the radiator is inside the case . The idea of cooling is to get heat out so this seems like a dumb idea to me .
I would use a moderate air cooler .

Your will run the pc on a 500 -550 watt psu easily . No need for more than that since crossfire/SLI are not possible

The money you save will let you buy a conventional hard drive for data storage as well

Far as I know you cant even get AM3+ boards in ITX form, the CPU and its mounting bracket is just too large.

Normally I dont recommend CLC coolers, but this would be one of the few cases where I think its acceptable. Go for the H100i, for some reason its cheaper than the H100 it replaced.
Get low profile memory, size is already an issue in a case this small without gluing hair combs to the RAM.
Samsung 830... :heink: Too good to be true. These have well and truly gone missing from the market, check the link it gives, its out of stock. Go with a 128GB 840 Pro, or if performance isnt needed that badly, 120GB 840.
750W is only needed for multi GPU setups, which you will never achieve with an ITX setup. Go for a quality 550W unit.

There are FM2 mini-ITX boards that were the AMD alternative . The mounting is identical in size to an AM3+ mount , and actually a little smaller than the intel option
