PC wont boot up after installing a new PSU and GPU(Technician FLAW?)

I bought a base computer at microcenter with a i3 2130 processor. the computer was refurbished. I bought a Refurbished GTS 450 and a new PSU 500 watt to replace the 300 watt PSU it came with. I brung it to a Technician, for him to install the Components, he installed the PSU, and the GPU and everything fit properly. Then he went to test it on a monitor, to see if the PSU would work. and he plugged the Monitor in through the integrated Graphics, and the PC wouldn't boot. He than took out the 500 watt PSU and put the 300w PSU that came with the PC and it booted up, properly, he said that the 500w PSU was too strong and it would fry my motherboard. I don't know if he was wrong but, I seen a guy on YouTube who just bought a 400 watt and bought the GTS 450 and it worked. I don't know if my Technician is trying to scam me or something. But my PC is a Refurbished Gateway DX something, its pretty big? should I just buy a 400w PSU and see if it would work with the integrated GPU and then try to use the GTS 450?

Stop listening to this dude and what he does. Something may or may not be broken, but his actions have no bearing on the actual case. He is utterly clueless, and likely to do more harm than good.

Return the crap 500w PSU (get your money back), gather all your stuff, and take it elsewhere.

He what? When you install a new graphics card the onboard/integrated graphics card is disabled by default. He should have plugged the monitor into your new graphics card.

And to echo what other are saying, no power supply is too powerful for any system. It is merely less efficient for a high power psu on a low power system.

He told me that my 500w PSU was too strong for my Computers Motherboard, Beacause when he plugged in the New GPU(GTS 450) and he plugged the 500w PSU, and plugged It into a monitor with the Graphics that came with the computer, it did not boot up, than he tried the old 300w PSU and it worked.. He didn't have a DVI monitor to test the graphics card on. he said i should get a new motherboard LOL? i dont know hes right. what could of been wrong?

Sorry whats that? i'm sorta noob lol. So Ihog you suggest i should get a lower power 400w PSU which is the recommended Requirements for my GTS 450 GPU? and was the guy lying about if he plugged in my Graphics card with the 500w PSU, that it would fry my Motherboard?

Wow really he plugs in the g card and plugs the monitor into the motherboard. And this same guy says a 500W power supply is too big and will blow up your computer. Run away!!!! Do not ever return to that store for computer work they don't have a clue what they are doing. Build it your self. My guess is the 500W power supply was either not plugged in correctly, such as not plugging in the Cpu 4 pin or 8 pin or the graphics cards 6 pin power. If those are plugged in and the darn thing is plugged into the wall and its not working it could be a bad power supply.

For some reason I think the monkeys at the store aren't plugging it in right intentionally to pump you for money, but for some reason I also think they could be too stupid to make a computer too.

I strongly suggest you learn to build your own rig. This Newegg 3 part series should help.

Thanks for that Response Fixer, you made me have a little confidence, i think i'm going to go to Mircocenter tomorrow, and buy a 400w just in case, somethings wrong with the 500w, and see if it works. i kind of not want to try to fuck with the 500w PSU, without talking to the Manager at Mircocenter because he probably knows what hes talking about. Do you guys want pictures of the PSU, GPU and inside my PC's Case to confirm anything?

USAF i don't want to take this "Fry my motherboard" to lightly. i think what i will do, is buy a 400w PSU from mircocenter tomorrow, install it myself, and hope for the best. do you want any pictures, to help assist you in helping me?

There shouldn't be a reason for you to buy a new PSU, even though the one you bought isn't that great, I'd recommend you go to your local microcenter with your 500W PSU and have them test it there to see if it's indeed a dead one. If it is dead you can either get that one replaced or get your money back and use that money to get yourself something from a more reputable company like seasonic, xfx, antec or corsair.
