For a family oriented machine where the most it will do is Word applications, its a bit overkill. But if gaming is a concern then its a good platform to start with, slap something like a 7770 in there and it will do fairly well.

Do you really need the wireless adapter?
Otherwise the build is good.

Family: Skype, Java applications, web apps, youtube... The general stuffs.
Cabin: Gaming (on rainy days), web surfing, some youtube, netflix.
