Sorry i meant a new gpu not psu lol typo. The 7950 is that not the top ati right now, do you think i could buy that and not bottleneck it, not that i would its in the 350ish range i think a bit high for me, maybe the 7850 could anyone say that would work well with my specs?

I love my old 5870 shes still a winner in my eyes she still kicks the crap out of a lot of the newer cards these days.
For me paying 300 or 500 for a card that may render 10 to 20 percent better is a waste of money the way I look at it on the amd side of cards so I will keep mine as long as I can until prices come down to within reason and specs get better before I retire her. I was weighing the options on my last build and for the 124 bucks I spent on it the 5870 I couldn't go wrong compared to 300 bucks. If it was me and I needed more I would crossfire a pair of them.

Really difficult to find an HD 5850 to buy these days -- I also have an HD 5870, but I can´t find another for a CF.

Recently I found one guy who is selling a second hand one, but he is asking $280 for it. :(

So you think the 5850 is till a pretty top notch card, week maybe ill hold off till I oc my CPU and see the performance then. But if I do end up buying one with a 3.0 pci will it be affected..?

Its still a good card I'd don't see why you can't play Skyrim with HD Mods. Do you have a Pci-E 3.0 slot on your motherboard? Rule of thumb don't upgrade unless its atleast 3 higher. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html I don't think buying a new card in the $200 range will give any real performance boost. Well you could get a 7870 xt...

nope, my mobo only says 2 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16 or dual at x8/x8 mode), so i guess thats a no go, cant believe my mobo is already so expired lol. Any idea if these 5850s are Overclockable?

As for playing skyrim with my current specs, i cant play it with everything maxed out without mods, so i doubt i could play the HD versions.

You will be fine running a PCI-e 3.0 card in a PCI-e 2.0 slot as they are backwards compatible. If you are trying to crossfire two cards, you will probably see a performance hit, but not one card alone at 16x on a PCI-e 2.0 slot.
