My A10 is overheating and im using an fx-8350 stock cooler (arctic silver thermal paste) at 4.2 ghz on an asrock 75 extreme board, ram @ 2133mhz (north bridge speed at the same) and 5 casefans the igpu is at the original settings of 400mhz. so basicly no overclocking at all, just the ram. It runs fine until i upen up a game then falls on its face, any help would be great. Thanks

AMD A10-5800K Trinity 3.8GHz (4.2GHz Turbo) Socket FM2 100W Quad-Core Desktop APU (CPU + GPU) with DirectX 11 Graphic AMD Radeon HD 7660D First off are you over clocking because the 4.2 clock you mention is turbo your chip runs a standard 3.8 have you put to much thermal past on all is needed is a pea size drop in the middle of your chip if so remove excess start over are your timings right? votage ect. Is your pc crashing rebooting or crashing back to the desktop? hows your power supply? Have you check your ram and timings? have you tried removing some of the ram and trying a few sticks at a time to find the problem. We need more info to be able to help you more thanks.

The first i would like to check is the cooler if it well seated?

if u remove the cooler and see the contacting plate (bellow) in the cooler and proccesor then examine the thermal paste u can see if it had good contact or no..

in good contact the thermal paste will had thin spread across

Are you over clocking because it looks like you are? If so, why are you using the stock cooler? They are not made for over clocking.

the thermal paste was spread across the chip before cooler was installed and yes overclocked to 4.2 ghz. which is still in the stock operating range just at the top... the ram is 4g ripjaw 2400mhz x 2 timing im not so sure about. it is default timing though. When i get a crash its usually blue screen saying windows has shut down to prevent system damage. and sometimes i just lose display and audio and have to power down and reboot.

try reset all to default including memory, if it stable in that (default setting). then the memory O.C is the culprit..

after installation and usage the thermal will change so u can check it if it had good contact or not by looking at it...
but first u will need to check if it the O.C is the problems or not

Is a bit too small.

Oh ok.

That seems a little high for a non-overclock. Granted games don't really stress the CPU all that much. What are the temps under Prime95?

im leaning towards the ram as the culprit a little, the nb has to be set at the same as the ram speed or higher?

Wow. I have never heard of a CPU going beyond it's TJmax before like that. Most CPUs will undervolt if themps try to go past the TJmax. Weard.

P.S. if you think it is your NB then stick your hand on it's heat sink and see if it is too hot to hold onto for long.

Be carefull not to burn your self though if it is boiling hot don't touch. If you hold your over it and feel a lot of heat don't touch it.

their really isnt a nb to touch, on an fm2 board. plus its a micro atx so its smaller than usual and the cooler takes up any space between the chip and ram
