My Gpu worked great for the first hour, i was playing all my games maxed out and then after installing a few updates i restarted my computer. The fan jumped gears and started spinning faster and faster. I think its overclocking itself but when i check catalyst it says its at factory default, and that the activity is at 94 %. I re installed windows and it worked great until i once again restarted my computer. I thought for a moment it could be the windows updates, turned them off and nope still having the same problem. Its running at 74 degrees Celsius as soon as i start up windows, any solutions? I saw someone post about farcry 3 being the blame but i deleted all traces of that game on my computer and still doing the same thing.

Re-install your GPU drivers with the latest ones from AMD or NVidia (whatever card you have). I've had similar problems but mine were due to ocing via strange registry mods. It's likely that a reinstall of the latest drivers will work for you though.

edit:
oh and don't worry about overheating at 74C. It's something you want to fix but it's not a dire emergency.

Are you running multiple displays?
If so, try it with only one.

Is any OCing software in use (other than CCC)?
Disable it.

When you say you re installed drivers, were they the newest ones?
You can get them here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

If nothing above is applicable, try installing an older driver: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/previous/12/Pages/radeon.aspx?os=Windows%20Vista%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition&rev=12.10

Other than that, I'm at a loss. Must be a problem with the cards bios. If the card is new, return it. If it isn't new, there are some other things that you can try, but they're tricky.
