Got a question that has had me banging my head against the wall.

I have a Emachines ET1352g. I have upgraded it to a Phenom x3 703e, 8 GB DDR3, upped the PSU Antec TP-650, new heat sink and fan and a new VisionTek AMD HD 5670 GPU, I have 6 TB of HD Space.

It is the last part I am having a issue with.

In the BIOS where I can select between AHCI and IDE mode for the HD's it is only allowing me to use the IDE mode instead of the AHCI mode. The option says IDE mode and it is grayed out.

Being I steam video to my flatscreen I also use it as a file server for the rest of the house.

My file transfer between drives is around 65-80MB a second, which isn't what SATA 3Gbit is capable of. I know I won't hit 3Gbit all the time but I should be pulling at least 120-180MBPS

Any suggestion on fixing this problem?

Unless you have an ssd, you'll never hit 3Gb/s. 65-80MB/s is typical for a mechanical hard drive. AHCI gives you other features but does not greatly affect transfer speeds of traditional hard drives. AHCI is a bigger deal with SSDs.

I spoke to someone more knowledgeable with motherboard, apparently the nVidia chipset on this board had issues with AHCI mode, so it is automatically disabled. Which gives me the perfect excuse to buy a new board.

Thank you thought for your answer, you got me thinking about buying a SSD when I get my tax return.
