I was thinking about upgrading my pc in a month or maybe around christmas. Im planning on just replacing the GPU and CPU. Im going to replace my HD 6850 and phenom x4 955 be with hd 7970 ghz edition and fx 8350.

I dont know much about Mobo though. My concern is that my mobo might be to old. I have a Asus m5a87 mobo: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A87/. Do i need to replace it? I dont plan on OC'ing.

Also will a 500w psu be enough for my new build? Is it too late to upgrade now? When will the new GPU series come out? :??:

Christmas is 8 months away. Good time to wait for Haswell.

On the page you linked for the motherboard, you will see the following tabs:
Overview - Specifications - Gallery - Support

Click on the Support tab and then select the CPU Support tab. You will see what BIOS version is required for the FX-8350.

AMD Radeon HD 7970 Graphics
System Requirements:
◾500W (or greater) power supply with one 150W 8-pin PCI Express power connector and one 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended
